43rd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals March 8-11 Gainesville Raceway 11211 N. County Road 225 Gainesville, FL 32609 Elevation: 167 feet Radio Frequency: 88.5 FM The traditional East Coast opener and the seasons first of 16 events for Pro Stock Motorcycle riders and first of 10 for Pro Mod racers, this event is one of the sports most revered with a rich tradition of history-making performances. This hallowed dragstrip has entertained spring-break-loving fans for four decades with such notable occasions as the first 260-mph Top Fuel and Funny Car runs in 1984 and the first 270-mph and 300-mph Top Fuel passes, in 1986 and 1992, respectively. Its 675-foot concrete launchpad is one of the longest on the tour. 2011 recap: Top Fuel winner Del Worsham became the 15th driver in NHRA history to win races in Top Fuel and Funny Car. He was joined in victory by Mike Neff (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle). By the time last years event concluded, fans had witnessed 14 of the 15 quickest e.t.s (including the 10 quickest) in Pro Stock, along with the top 14 speeds in that class history. The bike class also battered the record books with the three quickest e.t.s (and six of the quickest 10) and the five fastest speeds. How to Get There: The track is on County Road 225, eight miles north of Gainesville Regional Airport. If traveling north on I-75, use Exit 382, Williston Road (CR 331), and turn left (east). Williston Road will become Waldo Road (State Route 24) after it crosses U.S. 441. Continue on Waldo Road to NE 53rd Avenue, turn left, then immediately right onto CR 225 and continue 3.5 miles to the track. From I-75 north or south, use Exit 390, 39th Avenue (SR 222), go east to Waldo Road (SR 24), turn left, go to NE 53rd Avenue, turn left, then immediately right onto CR 225 and continue 3.5 miles to the track. March 23-25 Pearl, MS 34th Annual Dixie Run will be held at the new Holiday Inn Hotel/Trustmark Park Stadium complex just off I-20 in Pearl.(601-939-5238) This promises to be the biggest and best Dixie Run in years. With the indoor facilities of the Holiday Inn Hotel, plus the space just across the street at Trustmark Park Stadium, we'll be able to bring back all the fun of prior Dixie Rod Runs without having to worry much about weather. All the old activities, plus several new ones are on tap and in the planning stages. We'll be bringing back the popular door prize auction with play money in the Holiday Inn ball room on Saturday night, along with live musical entertainment in the ballroom. The popular driving games outdoors will return in the stadium across the street, along with the Friday night BBQ, ladies tea, as well as some great grand prizes, like a 350 engine. Entry fee will continue at $20 and a block of rooms are being set aside at good rate sat the Holiday Inn. Flyers and entry details are being put together and will be mailed to you soon. So mark your calendar and plan to be with us for Dixie Run 34. With summer approaching, warm temperatures can turn the event into Hotlanta and throw crew chiefs a curve as they try to glue their charges to the facilitys 660-foot concrete launchpad. The event is the third on the schedule to feature the high-revving 190-mph Pro Stock Motorcycles. 2011 recap: In front of their team sponsor, Jason Line won an all-Summit Racing team final over Greg Anderson in their second such meeting this year. In Top Fuel, Antron Brown scored at the event for the fourth time, and he was joined in the winners circle by his Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car teammate Jack Beckman and reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle world champ LE Tonglet, who collected his first hardware of the year to break up the seasons Harley-Davidson domination. How to Get There: The track is about 65 miles north of Atlanta on Interstate 85 at U.S. Highway 441. From Atlanta, take I-85 north to Exit 149 (Highway 441). Travel north on Highway 441 to Steven Tanger Boulevard. Go left on Tanger Boulevard, then right on E. Ridgeway Road, and follow the signs to the track (approximately a half-mile on the right). May 5, Lucedale, MS BBQ cook off & Car/truck/bike show. We will have amateur BBQ cook off teams battling it out. And we will have a car and bike show as well. They will be showing off their pride and joy. And there will be a winner selected from these competitors. There is a $25 entry fee for Cars and $15 for bikes.
